When Will Restrictions Related to Energy Drinks Come Into Effect?
Babken Tunyan, the chairman of the Permanent Commission on Economic Issues of the National Assembly, addressed the draft law prohibiting the sale of energy drinks to minors on his Facebook page.
“Yesterday, I was reviewing our compatriots' reactions to the initiative of the MPs from the Prosperous Armenia faction, which proposes to prohibit the sale of energy drinks to minors. The responses were almost entirely positive, which indicates that the issue has indeed matured, and this solution was anticipated. However, I was surprised by another thing. A large number of users, welcoming this initiative, called for the law to also prohibit the sale of tobacco products and alcohol to minors. Dear compatriots, the sale of tobacco products and alcohol to minors has long been PROHIBITED. If you notice such occurrences, please inform the relevant authorities because this concerns the health of our children.
Regarding energy drinks, I would like to remind you that we provided a positive conclusion on the legislative package in the meeting of the Permanent Commission on Economic Issues yesterday, which includes: prohibiting the sale of energy drinks to minors; restricting the advertising of energy drinks; and prohibiting minors from being involved in the production, advertising, trade, and similar work related to energy drinks.
The authors of the draft are Alkhaz Ghazaryan, Hakob Arshakyan, Babken Tunyan, Sona Ghazaryan, Arusyak Julhakyan, Arsen Torosyan, Mariam Poghosyan, and Hasmik Hakobyan. The draft will be presented for parliamentary approval in the plenary session starting next week. The restrictions will come into effect six months after its full adoption,” Tunyan wrote.
