Former Footballer Nominated for President of Georgia

The ruling party, "Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia," has nominated former football player and current parliament member Mikheil Kavelashvili for the presidency.

"I am pleased to announce that, according to the decision of the party's political council, I nominate Mikheil Kavelashvili for the position of President of Georgia," said Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of the "Georgian Dream," at a press briefing held at the party's central office.

As Ivanishvili noted, Kavelashvili has consistently expressed his principled stance on all issues important to the country since the beginning of his political career. Referring to recent years, during which he has been a member of parliament, Ivanishvili stated that the presidential candidate has made a significant contribution to the protection of national interests and the strengthening of sovereignty.

Mikheil Kavelashvili was born in July 1971 in Bolnisi, Georgia. During his football career, he played for Tbilisi's "Dinamo," Vladikavkaz's "Alania," England's "Manchester City," and Swiss clubs "Grasshopper," "Zurich," and "Lucerne." He has also represented the Georgian national team.

Since 2016, Kavelashvili has been a member of parliament from the ruling party.
