VIDEO: I Suspect That Erevand Kocharyan's Famous Portrait Is Fake, Says Ruben Kochar

Mariam Z.

Erevand Kocharyan's son, Ruben Kochar, held a press conference where he announced that 21 works have been handed over to the Erevand Kocharyan Museum, some of which are missing, and there has been no explanation for a year. The case regarding the disappearance of Kocharyan's paintings has been with the Investigative Committee for 8 months, and nothing has been done.

Ruben Kochar expressed his doubts that the famous portrait of the sculptor, which is housed in the gallery, is a forgery. "The portrait has a wooden line underneath it, which was painted by Kocharyan. My father once showed it to me, and it left an impression on me. This wood has nail holes, which are painted, not drilled. He told me that if you find someone in Armenia who can paint such nail holes, I'll cut my neck. That has stayed with me until today. Currently, the wood and the nail holes are missing from that painting. If the frame of the painting is made smaller and that section is covered, that's another story. Kocharyan painted this; he was proud that no one could paint like that, and now that part is closed off," he stated.

He noted that he has other doubts as well. "I suspect that some parts of the works in the Erevand Kocharyan Museum are original. For that reason, I am requesting an examination from the state because it belongs to the state. The representatives of the state, on the contrary, do not respond at all. They say, ‘I have nothing to talk to you about.’ For all these months from the minister, I have only noticed whispers and sour looks; nothing more. No one asks what the issue is about, apparently they know that’s why they don’t ask," he revealed.
