“Unacceptable Statements”: Azerbaijani Ambassador Summoned by French Foreign Ministry

The Azerbaijani ambassador to France has been summoned by the French Foreign Ministry due to statements made by Azerbaijani authorities regarding "neocolonialism" at the UN COP29 climate conference in the overseas territories of France and the Netherlands. This was stated in a message released on the ministry's website.

Previously, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev mentioned that the overseas territories of France and the Netherlands face serious issues such as neocolonialism and climate change. Following this, France's Minister of Ecological Transition and Energy, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, announced her withdrawal from participating in COP29 in Baku.

“On Tuesday, November 19, the Azerbaijani ambassador to France was summoned to the Foreign Ministry,” the statement from the French Foreign Ministry said. It noted that the diplomat's summons followed "unacceptable statements" made by Azerbaijani authorities during the COP29 conference, which compelled Pannier-Runacher to cancel her attendance at the event.
