VIDEO: New Footage of Clashes Between Protesters and Police in Georgia

In the center of Tbilisi, the police have dispersed an action of those protesting against the results of the parliamentary elections in Georgia. Clashes have erupted between protesters and police. Several protesters have been arrested during the action, and one person has been injured and taken away by an ambulance.

Tents and benches were set up at the intersection of Varazisqev, Melikishvili, Kekelidze streets, and Chavchavadze Boulevard on Sunday evening, gathered from the surrounding area.

As reported by local media, before dispersing the protest, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia issued a statement urging organizers and participants to comply with the lawful demands of the police. The statement read:

“The participants of the rally have been given sufficient time to express their opinion and document their protest. Freedom of speech does not include blocking the streets and disrupting the normal rhythm of citizens' lives.”

It has been reported that police are currently pushing protesters out of the roadway on Melikishvili Avenue in central Tbilisi.
