Artificial Intelligence Should Not Control Nuclear Weapons, US and China Leaders
US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping have agreed during a meeting that it is essential to maintain human oversight over the decision to use nuclear weapons amid the development of artificial intelligence (AI). This was announced today by Jake Sullivan, the US National Security Advisor.
“Today, the two leaders took an important step regarding AI in security and risk; they agreed on the necessity of maintaining human oversight over the decision to deploy nuclear weapons. We could work responsibly in the area of risk management,” Sullivan told reporters.
Joe Biden and Xi Jinping also emphasized the need for thorough consideration of potential risks and the responsible development of AI technologies in the military sector.
