Kocharian, Ohanyan, and Khachaturov to be Detained: Decision

The court has decided to detain Seyran Ohanyan, Yuri Khachaturov, and Robert Kocharian to ensure their participation in the next session. Today, Robert Kocharian, Seyran Ohanyan, and Yuri Khachaturov did not appear in the anti-corruption criminal court.

According to the lawyers, the reason for their absence is that they received no clarification on the charges against them. Lawyer Aram Vardevanyan noted that he received a notification, which did not mention the term "defendant Robert Kocharian". He reminded that the court itself recorded in the previous session that the term "defendant" was not used when addressing Robert Kocharian.

He, along with the other lawyers, argued that Kocharian and Ohanyan cannot have the status of defendants. It is worth noting that the Supreme Court annulled the decision to terminate the case against Robert Kocharian, Yuri Khachaturov, and others, and the case is being reconsidered in the Anti-Corruption Court.

It is recalled that the case concerning the events of March 1, 2008, involving 'overthrowing the constitutional order', includes the second President of Armenia Robert Kocharian, former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, former Secretary General of the CSTO Yuri Khachaturov, former Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan, and former Deputy Prime Minister Armen Gevorgyan as defendants. Yuri Khachaturov and Seyran Ohanyan are accused of overthrowing the constitutional order, Robert Kocharian of overthrowing the constitutional order and accepting bribes in especially large amounts, and Armen Gevorgyan of assisting in the overthrow of the constitutional order, accepting bribes in especially large amounts, and legalizing property obtained through criminal means.
