"The Ball is in Their Court": Lavrov
Russia is ready to engage with the new US administration, as the ball is in their court. This statement was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during an interview with Marina Kim for the "New World" project, in response to a question about the possibility of restoring relations between Russia and the new US administration.
“President Putin said during Valdai that he is always ready for contact, we have not interrupted it, the ball is in their court,” Lavrov said.
In response to a question about expectations regarding Donald Trump becoming President of the United States, the Russian Foreign Minister stated that one should judge based on concrete actions. The US presidential elections took place on November 5, with the Democratic Party represented by Vice President Kamala Harris and the Republican Party by former President Donald Trump.
Kamala Harris, the candidate for President from the ruling Democratic Party, has already publicly acknowledged her defeat in the elections. Trump is the first president in over 120 years not to be re-elected for a second term, yet he ran again and won.
The formal voting by the Electoral College will take place on December 17, the certification of results on January 6, and the inauguration on January 20.
