How Many Armenians Remain in Artsakh
If before the 2020 war 150,000 Armenians lived in Artsakh, now only 13 remain. This was stated by the Ombudsman of Nagorno-Karabakh Gegham Stepanyan at a conference on November 14, themed 'Azerbaijan's Aggression Against Human Rights and Environmental Protection.'
'This is what needs to be known about Azerbaijan and the human rights agenda. All principles of human rights remain on paper and are disregarded when adopting certain political decisions,' he noted.
Stepanyan added that the absence of sanctions against Azerbaijan and the disregard for its crimes have led to ethnic cleansing against the Armenian population of Artsakh.
According to him, in the case of Artsakh, there has been no 'Greta Effect' in the sense that Azerbaijan has even been encouraged in its criminal acts, as evidenced by the organization of COP29 in Baku following the ethnic cleansing in Artsakh.
'This is nothing but the neglect of crimes, this is encouragement. The blockade of the Lachin corridor is one of the elements of ethnic cleansing. It is astonishing that the international community has turned a blind eye to the fact that the people of Artsakh were starving, including children and the disabled. Even in the case of the ICRC, we had to request them to make a statement. This indicates that something in the realm of human rights is not right,' Stepanyan emphasized.
