Aliyev: It Is Unjust to Call Us an Oil State Now
Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev stated that calling his country an oil state is unfair, as the country's share in global oil production is only 0.7%. He made these remarks during the opening ceremony of the COP29 leaders' summit in Baku.
“In the 19th century, Azerbaijan produced more than half of the world's oil output. If some Western politicians and media referred to us as an oil state back then, it was justified. However, when we are called an oil state today, it is unjust and simply reflects a lack of political culture and knowledge. Today, Azerbaijan's share in global oil production is 0.7%, and in global gas production, it is 0.9%,” said Aliyev.
