IAEA Head Appeals to Iran
The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, emphasized the need to find diplomatic avenues to resolve the situation surrounding Iran's nuclear program ahead of his visit to Tehran.
Grossi stated, “Iranian authorities need to understand that the international situation is becoming increasingly tense, that the space for maneuvering is starting to shrink, and that it is necessary to find pathways for a diplomatic solution,” in an interview with Agence France-Presse.
He admitted that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), signed in 2015 and later abandoned by the United States, is a “hollow shell.” Commenting on Donald Trump’s election as U.S. President, Grossi noted that during his first term, cooperation was effective with the Republican team, even though Washington withdrew from the nuclear deal during Trump’s presidency.
