Will Washington and Tehran Reach a Diplomatic Agreement? WSJ
Washington and Tehran may ultimately reach a diplomatic agreement during Donald Trump's second term, despite the "mutual animosity". This was reported by The Wall Street Journal on Thursday.
It is noted that some individuals who worked with Trump during the first term of his presidency do not rule out such a development in U.S.-Iran relations. At the same time, according to former Pentagon official Michael Malroy, Trump likes to strike deals, but only if "it's his deal".
According to sources cited by The Wall Street Journal, Trump plans to seriously tighten sanctions pressure on Iran and halt its potential for oil supply. Chinese ports that receive Iranian oil may also be subjected to sanctions. "I think you will see a return of sanctions, and you will see how (Trump's new administration) tries to further isolate Iran, both diplomatically and financially," a former White House official told the newspaper.
As previously stated by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Tehran intends to expand its partnership with neighboring and Islamic countries, and it does not matter who becomes America's new leader. Iran considers Russia as one of its neighboring states.
The official results of the U.S. elections have not yet been finalized, but according to American media, Trump has already gathered about 300 electoral votes and has declared himself the 47th president of the United States. The ruling Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris has conceded her defeat and has declared the Republican the elected president.
