Why the Kyaramyan Issue Won't Close: 'Hraparak'
Although Nikol Pashinyan reprimanded his party members during a closed meeting last week, urging them to stop discussing the known hearings and punishing Arghisti Kyaramyan, the demand to hold Kyaramyan accountable continues to be a topic of internal discussions within the ruling party (CP). They believe that Kyaramyan should not remain unpunished for his disrespectful behavior towards the institution of Parliament and for using street jargon while addressing those seated in the auditorium. He made public accusations against Hovik Aghazaryan, stating that he allegedly tried to provide patronage regarding his son's case.
This is reported by the newspaper “Hraparak”.
“In other words, the head of the Investigative Committee ‘knew and did not inform’ before the hearings, which is also a crime. But most importantly, the head of the Investigative Committee publicly confessed from the podium of the National Assembly that, being the head of an investigative agency, he was guided not by facts but by interpreting the law. The discussion concerns the well-known amendment regarding the return of VAT, which allows car importers to reclaim the VAT from vehicles imported from the West and then exported to Russia. The law, of course, has gaps that some businessmen have attempted to exploit, but this is neither Kyaramyan's nor the State Revenue Committee's problem, especially not through the creation of criminal cases. If there was a gap, they were obliged to turn to the Parliament and propose clarifications, whereas Kyaramyan ‘was guided by his own opinion’, saying, ‘At some point, along with our very respectable colleagues from the SRC, it was decided to put an end to what we perceive as disgraceful treatment towards the state…’,” the newspaper writes.
