Key Positions in the Ministry of Defense Remain Vacant

For more than a year, the position of Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia has been vacant, with Acting Chief Aren Sargsyan filling the role. The former head, Armen Avtandilyan, was dismissed last August. Additionally, the position of commander of the 5th Army Corps of the Ministry of Defense has been vacant for about two months, following the dismissal of Sasun Badasyan. Despite this, the position has not yet been filled. Last week, Deputy Minister of Defense Arman Sargsyan was questioned by Gegham Manukyan about the delay in appointments, but he did not receive a clear answer.

The newspaper 'Hraparak' notes, 'The fact that key positions in the Ministry of Defense have remained vacant for such an extended period is particularly noteworthy against the backdrop of the information that Aliyev considers Armenia's demilitarization as one of the preconditions for signing a peace agreement. It is possible that this is the reason for leaving these critical positions unfilled. However, it cannot be ruled out that the lack of appointments is simply due to a shortage of qualified personnel.'
