Unexpected: Surbuhii Galyan

"It was unexpected; I was holding a different position, but after receiving the offer, I thought about it and gave my conscious consent." This was stated by the newly appointed Minister of Justice, Surbuhii Galyan, in a conversation with reporters after the cabinet meeting, responding to whether her candidacy and subsequent appointment were expected.

When asked about the burden of guilt and responsibility falling on her as part of the ruling Civil Contract party, she replied, "I have already taken on that burden before, when I served as Deputy Minister of Justice after the revolution. This awareness of responsibility also conditioned my agreement to take the position."

She noted that she has no fear that the members of the Civil Contract party might start collecting signatures against her one day. "The job of a person working in the executive branch should be to get work done, and having concerns doesn't seem appropriate," Galyan said.

According to her, the main responsibility of the Minister of Justice is to appropriately address the issue of justice on a political level, and secondly, to develop a new justice system based on stable and unified standards. "With the preservation of this component, we will first try to identify the problem to understand where the feeling of lack of justice is actually formed among our citizens, and then we will slowly attempt to solve that issue," she stated.

Galyan also assured that there are no political prisoners in Armenia. "All criminal cases that have been initiated were based on specific possible criminal acts as a response," she emphasized.
