Protests in Turkey Against Erdogan
Thousands of people have taken to the streets in Turkey to express their outrage against the arrest of opposition party mayors and the appointment of government trustees in their place. The protests are taking place in the eastern cities of Mardin, Batman, and Halfeti, where the Ministry of the Interior had appointed trustees (puppets).
It should be noted that during the protests held in front of municipal buildings on November 4, the police intervened and used brute force. The police employed tear gas and water cannons.
At least 60 people have been arrested, including members of the leadership circles of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and the Democratic Regions Party (DBP). Among the demonstrators was Gulistan Şoyunlu, a co-chair of the HDP in Batman, who told the Turkish news agency Bianet, “We will be here until this decision is revoked. We will not step back from here.”
