Israelis Urged to Protest Following Gallant's Dismissal

The leader of the Israeli parliamentary opposition and head of the Yesh Atid party, Yair Lapid, along with several protest organizations, has called on citizens to take to the streets following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's decision to dismiss Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Earlier today, Netanyahu announced Gallant's dismissal due to a lack of confidence between them and an inability to continue military operations as before. The defense minister's position will be assumed by the current foreign minister, Israel Katz.

“Dismissing Gallant in the middle of a war is madness. Netanyahu is selling the security of Israel and the soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for the sake of disgraceful political survival. The far-right government favors conscripts over professionals. I urge all Zionist patriots to take to the streets tonight in protest,” wrote the politician on the X social network.

Several protest movements in Israel, which regularly organize anti-government demonstrations in Tel Aviv and other cities, have also called on citizens to take to the streets. Israeli media reports indicate that Gallant's dismissal, among other things, could negatively impact efforts to negotiate with the Palestinian Hamas movement for the release of hostages from Gaza.
