Goy Theater Issues Statement
On November 4, 2024, the Goy Theater was set to resume its normal operations pending a final court ruling on its case. This information was shared in a statement issued by the Goy Theater.
Karo Asatryan, the advocate for the interests of the Goy Theater, and the theater's staff approached the G. Sundukyan National Academic Theater at 11:00 AM on November 4, 2024, to present a demand to its director: to cease the illegal use of property and not to obstruct the entry of Goy Theater personnel into its premises.
However, the director of the G. Sundukyan National Academic Theater only agreed to meet with journalists and two representatives from the Goy Theater. Without hearing the purpose and demand of the Goy Theater's personnel, the director took advantage of the presence of numerous cameras and reporters to hold a press conference, despite the Goy representatives arriving with a clear request. Refusing to engage in provocations, the Goy Theater representatives exited the meeting room.
In response to our letter dated October 30, 2024, from the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, we clarify that the Ministry referenced provisions of the law, stating that it does not have the authority to interpret court decisions or provide evaluations of any administrative act. At the same time, it asserted that “...it is not obligated to provide any explanation; state and local self-government bodies and officials must refrain from actions that could endanger or harm the independence of the court or judge...” Despite bypassing the aforementioned points, the Ministry of Justice, nonetheless, addressed the raised issue in terms of commentary.
