Public Transport Delays: Avinyan Provides Clarifications on Metro Congestion
The Mayor of Yerevan, Tigran Avinyan, addressed the recent images published from the metro and the reports of congestion during an operational meeting.
"We are witnessing significant congestion that is absolutely unrelated to the unified ticketing system, but it reflects another issue demonstrating the need for new rolling stock. We are currently launching another train. We experience these congestion issues during rush hours, which are not connected to the unified ticketing system," he said.
Vice Mayor Suren Grigoryan responded, stating that while he does not rule out the possibility of a rolling stock issue, he noted that despite the reported congestion near the train cars, there were no images showing similar congestion at the actual entry points. According to Grigoryan, this once again proves that the system is adequately servicing even this high volume of passengers.
"Any change comes with its complexities, but we overcome these challenges together over time. I am confident that the transition of this system will be such a path; the problems at the metro have been resolved, there are no congestions at the entry points or near the metro station, but we do have issues that need addressing," added the mayor, addressing the residents of the capital.
