A 35-year-old defender of the Peruvian team, José Hugo de la Cruz Meza, has died as a result of a lightning strike during a football match. This was reported by the Spanish newspaper Marca.

The incident occurred in the 23rd minute of the match between 'Juventud Bellavista' and 'Familia Chaka' in Huancayo, Peru. Players from both teams left the field due to a storm, but the lightning struck the defender while he was next to the goalkeeper.

Reports indicate that the players were swiftly taken to the hospital, but he was already pronounced dead. The goalkeeper, who was next to the defender, suffered serious burns but survived.
