Lebanon Responds to US Request Information

The office of Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati has stated that the United States has not requested Lebanon to unilaterally declare a ceasefire with Israel. This was reported by the Reuters agency, citing a statement from Mikati's office.

Previously, the agency had reported that US President Joe Biden's advisor Amos Hochstein had approached the Lebanese leadership, requesting a unilateral declaration of a ceasefire with Israel as part of efforts to support negotiations for conflict resolution.

"The office of the caretaker Prime Minister of Lebanon, Najib Mikati, denied on Friday the information that the US asked Lebanon to declare a unilateral ceasefire," the agency's report said. According to them, the office also emphasized that the Lebanese government's position is unequivocal: it aims for a ceasefire between both sides and the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
