«For Us, This is Unacceptable»: Peskov
The treatment of Russian journalists in the USA contradicts the principles of media freedom. This statement was made by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of Russia, as reported by RIA Novosti.
“The behavior displayed towards journalists after they passed all the procedures to obtain entry permits contradicts the principles of press freedom. Of course, for us, this is unacceptable,” Peskov stated.
Earlier, Izvestia's operator Vladimir Borovikov reported that he was interrogated for 10 hours at an American airport. He released a video in which he shared that during this entire time he was deprived of communication, and his phone was not returned to him even after boarding the plane.
Maria Zakharova, a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, reported that the American authorities had not informed the Russian embassy in Washington about detaining Russian journalists who traveled to the USA to cover the presidential elections. According to her, this occurred on the night of October 28 to 29, and the journalists did not go to the USA “clandestinely” but with all necessary documents.
