We Strongly Reject Such Accusations: Peskov

The press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, has commented on the statements made by the Georgian authorities regarding allegations that Moscow allegedly falsified the parliamentary elections in the republic.

“We strongly reject such accusations. They have become standard; whether in convenient or inconvenient moments, Russia is accused of interference. There has been no interference, and the accusations are absolutely baseless. We firmly deny these allegations,” emphasized the Kremlin spokesperson.

Regarding the results of the parliamentary elections held in Georgia, Peskov stated that it is the choice of the Georgian people. He noted that it is now very important for third countries not to interfere with the results of these elections.

Peskov also indicated that recognizing or not recognizing elections is not within the president's authority.

On October 26, parliamentary elections were held in Georgia. Nearly 20 parties competed for seats in the country’s highest legislative body, which consists of 150 members. The ruling party, “Georgian Dream,” which has been in power for 12 consecutive years, won 54.3% of the votes based on the processing of 90% of the ballots. Several parties have declared a boycott of parliament, while the opposition “Coalition for Change” party has refused parliamentary mandates and state funding.

Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili has declared total electoral fraud in the parliamentary elections.
