U.S. President Joe Biden has labeled North Korea's deployment of troops to Russia as a "dangerous development" against the backdrop of Western speculation that they would participate in the war in Ukraine on behalf of Russia. This was reported by AFP.

"It’s very dangerous," Biden told reporters in response to a question about the stationing of North Korean troops in Russia.

Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh announced that North Korea has sent about 10,000 soldiers to Russia to train and fight in Ukraine in the "coming weeks." According to her, part of the North Korean army has "already approached Ukraine." She added that it is "entirely possible" that North Korean soldiers are moving towards Kursk, although the Pentagon currently has no further details.

In mid-October, South Korean intelligence began reporting that North Korean soldiers were being sent to Russia. Intelligence estimates suggested that this involved around 12,000 soldiers.

By the end of October, some of them (according to some sources, around 1,500 fighters) had already been relocated to the Russian Far East for training, intelligence officials reported.

On October 26, The New York Times, citing two Ukrainian and American officials, reported that several thousand North Korean soldiers had arrived in the Kursk region, where they could participate in battles alongside Russian soldiers against the Ukrainian armed forces.

On October 28, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte confirmed that the North Korean soldiers stationed in Russia were deployed to the Kursk region to assist Russian military personnel.

Vladimir Putin has not directly confirmed the participation of North Korean soldiers in the war. However, during a press conference held on October 24 after the BRICS summit, he responded to a question about satellite images showing the presence of DPRK soldiers, saying, "The images are serious matters. If there are images, it means they reflect something."
