Monitoring Violations Inside Cars: Proposal

The Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs proposes to monitor not only the speeding of vehicles but also violations occurring inside the car using cameras. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Arpine Sargsyan, during the parliamentary hearings on the draft state budget for 2025.

The ministry intends to present a corresponding proposal and discuss the timelines for its implementation. According to Sargsyan, the new system will be able to capture smoking and using a phone while driving, in addition to seatbelt violations.

“We are not rushing to implement the system, so that citizens can adapt to these changes without stress,” she added.

The authorities also plan to soon require drivers to install child seats in their vehicles. According to Sargsyan, despite the fact that most cars in Armenia are outdated and many do not have such equipment, parents will still be obliged to acquire appropriate devices, as children's safety is more important than financial difficulties.
