Grisha Tamrazyan Acquitted of Charges of Hooliganism

Grisha Tamrazyan, the chief advisor to the rector of V. Brusov University, who faced accusations of hooliganism, has been acquitted. This information comes from the statement of lawyer Yervand Varosyan.

“On December 9, 2022, the first attempt by the 'most democratic' government to seize V. Brusov University ended in disgrace. Karine Harutyunyan was re-elected. Alongside the process of ‘discrediting’ the election results, as is customary in the bastion of democracy, criminal proceedings were initiated,” wrote the lawyer.

He noted that a report aired on public television showed that on the day of the election, Grisha Tamrazyan shouted insults at the then Minister of Education, Culture, and Sports, Vahram Dumanyan. “A few days later, a deputy named Sisak recalled seeing such a report and sent a notification about the crime to the Prosecutor General of Armenia,” he added.

The lawyer continues that afterwards, criminal proceedings were initiated, and Grisha Tamrazyan was subjected to criminal prosecution with charges of hooliganism. Measures of restraint were chosen, including a suspension from office, and later the criminal case was sent to court with a conviction conclusion.

“And this whole process was presented to the public through long messages from the bodies of criminal prosecution. Yet, there was silence regarding Grisha Tamrazyan’s acquittal in court. Nevertheless, today we received the decision from the Court of Cassation of Armenia, which rejected the appeal filed by the Deputy Prosecutor General and upheld the acquittal of Grisha Tamrazyan,” he wrote.
