We Are Ready to Have Open Borders as Soon as Tomorrow: Ruben Rubinyan
Yes, we have reached that agreement, we have reaffirmed it, but at this moment it has not been implemented, and it is not our fault. This was stated by the Vice President of the National Assembly, Ruben Rubinyan, during a conversation with journalists in parliament, responding to a question about why the Margara checkpoint should have been opened for third parties, but there has been a delay, and what the issue is.
"In other words, we have taken the necessary steps on our side, we have renovated the Margara checkpoint, we have done everything, and we are waiting for the Turkish side to implement that agreement. Overall, the resolution process is ongoing, and the Armenian side is ready to have open borders as soon as tomorrow and established diplomatic relations," he said.
When asked why no action is being taken, Rubinyan replied, "I cannot say, it is clear to us that we have reached agreements and we hope that these agreements will be fulfilled." To the question of whether it is possible for these agreements to be implemented after the ratification of the Armenian-Azerbaijani treaty, Rubinyan responded that it has been confirmed with the Turkish diplomat that the agreements are without preconditions.
He also noted that the Armenia-Turkey normalization process and the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process are two separate processes. "Can they influence each other? They can. I believe that progress in the Armenia-Turkey process will greatly contribute to the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process. Generally, we are talking about countries that are in the same region, and naturally, there is an influence, but they are two separate processes," said the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly.
