Risks in the Border Demarcation Process, Says Pashinyan
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan sees risks in the border demarcation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan; however, he considers the risks of lacking a process to be a hundredfold greater.
This was stated by Pashinyan during a question-and-answer session in the National Assembly, responding to questions from parliament members. Pashinyan emphasized that there is nothing in life that is devoid of risk.
“Why do we consider this border demarcation process positive despite these risks? Because we believe that the risks of not having a border demarcation process are a hundredfold and thousandfold greater,” said Pashinyan.
According to him, the question is whether the mechanisms of the regulations governing the activities of the border demarcation commissions of Armenia and Azerbaijan allow for the management of risks. “Our assessment is that they do allow for risk management,” he added.
Pashinyan reiterated that not a single millimeter of Armenia's sovereign territory is subject to bargaining.
The Prime Minister noted that more than 200 square kilometers of Armenia's sovereign territory is occupied; however, the Republic of Armenia does not set the issue of returning them through military means. “We believe that today’s ratified regulations and the border demarcation process provide all opportunities to ensure the integrity and security of the Republic of Armenia’s sovereign territory through peaceful negotiations,” he said.
