Pedagogical Education Not Mandatory for Becoming a Teacher, Says Minister of Education

We will be able to establish separate regulations for cases where individuals with higher professional education in a specific field wish to work as teachers but face the challenge of gathering the additional 30 credits in pedagogy. This statement was made by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Zhanna Andreasyan, during the discussion of the draft law on amendments and supplements to the law on general education.

“This opportunity was provided by legislative changes in 2022, allowing individuals with higher professional education to work as teachers if they gather 30 credits in pedagogy. However, the sub-legal regulation remained open. During this time, several hundred citizens have taken advantage of this opportunity, who had higher professional education in relevant fields but lacked teaching qualifications, completed the guaranteed 30 credit courses, and are working successfully. However, it became evident that there is a need for certain regulations, such as what should be considered relevant professional higher education in the field and how credits should be calculated,” she noted.

The minister added that the results of this process are already visible, and many citizens are filling teaching positions.
