Details Emerge: Intoxicated Man Hits Police Vehicle

The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia has initiated a criminal investigation within the Arabkir Administrative District of Yerevan on October 15, 2024, regarding a citizen's interference with the lawful activities of police officers and damage caused to a police vehicle.

Specifically, the investigation revealed that at 4:05 AM, while on duty, the patrol officers were documenting an administrative offense committed by the driver of a Nissan vehicle near the intersection of Komitas Avenue and V. Vagharchyan Street in Yerevan. During this time, a man with a stone in his hand ran from the sidewalk towards the parked police vehicle and intentionally threw the stone at the vehicle, damaging the trunk, roof, and rear window before fleeing the scene.

However, the individual was detained by the patrol officers and taken to the Investigative Committee's Arabkir Administrative District Investigation Division, where the investigative authority decided to arrest him based on reasonable suspicion of having committed the crime.

It was established that the individual, a 28-year-old with no permanent residence, was under the influence of alcohol. During the inspection, the stone thrown at the police vehicle was found and seized. A review of the footage from a surveillance camera present at the scene has been conducted, and a forensic examination has been appointed.

With sufficient grounds established, charges were filed against the individual for committing an offense under the second part of Article 452 of the Armenian Criminal Code, to which he admitted guilt, expressing remorse for his actions. The investigative body submitted a request to the court to select detention as a preventive measure; however, the court rejected this, stating that the defendant's compliance with procedural obligations could be ensured with a milder alternative preventive measure, the specifics of which should be resolved by the investigative body.

The investigator has applied the measure of prohibition of absence against the 28-year-old man. The investigation is ongoing.
