Biden Sends Letter to Aliyev

The United States is pleased to see that Armenia and Azerbaijan have made significant progress towards the finalization of a peace agreement, which will regulate the relations between Yerevan and Baku. This was stated in a letter from U.S. President Joe Biden to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, according to Azerbaijani state media.

In the letter, President Biden specifically mentioned: "I want to assure you that the United States is ready to support a sustainable and dignified peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia that will finally end the centuries-long conflict. The peace agreement will not only ensure Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity but will also transform the entire region by paving the way for increased trade, investment, and connectivity between Europe and Central Asia."

Biden emphasized that, against the backdrop of the international COP29 conference, the world's attention is focused on Baku, and Azerbaijan has a unique opportunity to showcase its commitment to peace to the international community.

The U.S. President concluded the letter by stating: "As you know, finalizing the remaining articles of the peace agreement will require creative approaches and compromises from all sides. But I am confident that you will continue the meetings, and I urge for the agreement to be finalized this year. I want to express my commitment to supporting this matter. My administration is dedicated to bold initiatives that will pave the way to peace. At my request, my special assistant, Michael Carpenter, the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Europe, will inform you of the specific steps we are ready to take and will clarify your position regarding negotiations with Armenia. I hope you will seize this opportunity to chart a new path toward common prosperity and well-being for the region."
