VIDEO. “How do you view judges with a political past?” Kocharyan asks the prosecutor

Mariam Z.

“As the Chief Prosecutor, as a lawyer, how do you relate to the cases that you present in court as a party, where parties should have equality, especially when judges have a political past? Is there a discussion in the prosecutor's office regarding this issue, or what approach should be adopted in that case?” asked Levon Kocharyan, a member of the National Assembly from the 'Armenia' faction, addressing Chief Prosecutor Anna Vardapetyan during parliamentary hearings on the state of crime in Armenia and the results of reforms.

“In the case of a judge, if a connection is seen in one instance, specific actions are taken regarding that; because it is convenient for them at that time. However, in other cases, where there is a much clearer connection against the other party and in favor of the prosecution, they ignore it, consider it normal, and nothing is done,” noted the MP.

Vardapetyan responded, “I assume we can be more specific regarding the trial related to your question... Your conclusion that the prosecutor's office supports double standards is not substantiated.”

“I want to know the overall position,” the MP reacted.
