‘We are implementing this project together with Azerbaijan’: Turkish official
The transport corridor from the eastern regions of Azerbaijan to Nakhchivan may traverse the territories of both Iran and Armenia. This was stated yesterday during an interview with Kanal7 by Turkey's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu, noting that in the first case, it concerns a route of 61 kilometers, and in the second case, about 43 kilometers.
Regardless of the final decision on the route, according to the Turkish minister, transport and logistic communications will nonetheless be established. ‘In any case, we are implementing this project together with Azerbaijan. There are certain issues, but they can be resolved in the near future. It’s just a matter of time,’ said Uraloglu.
According to the Turkish minister, no country should oppose turning its territory into an international transport artery connecting Beijing to London. ‘It is simply unwise to oppose such an idea,’ emphasized Uraloglu, adding that although Ankara is not directly participating in negotiations regarding the restoration of communication routes in the South Caucasus, it maintains constant communication and coordination with Baku.
Commenting on Iran’s negative stance regarding the creation of the so-called ‘Zangezur corridor,’ Uraloglu expressed the opinion that the reason for Iran’s rejection of this issue might be solely related to Tehran's desire to create a corridor through Iranian territory.
