Biden Issues Statement on Nuclear Weapons

The United States is ready to negotiate on nuclear weapons reduction without preconditions with Russia, China, and North Korea. This was stated in a written statement by U.S. President Joe Biden in connection with this year's Nobel Peace Prize awarded to the Japanese survivors of atomic bombs in Hiroshima.

The head of state noted that the global community "must continue to make progress toward the day when we can definitively and permanently free the world of nuclear weapons."

"The United States is ready to negotiate without preconditions with Russia, China, and North Korea to reduce the nuclear threat. It is not in the interest of our countries or the entire world to slow down progress on the reduction of nuclear arsenals. Reducing the nuclear threat is important not in spite of the dangers of the modern world, but because of them. These nuclear risks undermine the norms and agreements we have worked together to create and contradict the vital work of today’s Nobel laureates," the president stated.
