Azerbaijan May Remain in Occupied Territories for Another 20 Years, Agazaryan Says

Azerbaijan may stay in the occupied territories of Armenia for another 10 or even 20 years, regardless of changes in government, said Hovik Agazaryan, a deputy from the ruling Civil Contract party, in an interview with Armlur.

“When they say territories are being surrendered, the entire population knows these are baseless words; no land has been surrendered. As a result of military actions, we now have segments of our sovereign territory that have been occupied by Azerbaijani armed forces,” he stated.

When asked if they continue to remain there, he responded, “Yes, and they may stay for another ten years, or even 20 years. During those 20 years, there may be seven changes of government, seven Bagratids may come to power, and they might still remain.”

In response to a clarifying question about whether there are guarantees that Azerbaijan will withdraw, he stated that while there is a guarantee, he could not specify a timeline. “They will definitely withdraw, but I cannot say when. Therefore, if you believe that the current government is not implementing the right policies on both the external and internal fronts, of course, as a citizen, you have the right to organize and raise public awareness to the point where society is ready for a change in government. There are two options: one is 2026, the other is if tomorrow or the day after, 100,000 citizens express their dissent against the government,” he said.
