Another Assassination Attempt Against Trump?
A man armed with weapons has been arrested near a rally in California held in support of U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump, according to police reports. The incident took place Saturday evening in Coachella, as reported by the Russian service of the BBC.
Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco stated that 49-year-old Vam Miller from Las Vegas was detained at an intersection an hour before Trump’s speech while driving a black SUV. He was found in possession of a hunting rifle, a loaded pistol, and a high-capacity magazine.
Authorities revealed that the man also had multiple passports and driver's licenses. He was arrested on charges of illegal possession of weapons and later released on a $5,000 bail. His court hearing is scheduled for January 2 next year.
Authorities declared that the incident did not affect Trump’s safety or that of the rally participants. Sheriff Bianco stated that the police effectively managed to prevent a possible assassination attempt against Donald Trump, although many questions regarding the incident remain unanswered.
Bianco admitted it is impossible to speculate on what the suspect's intentions were and acknowledged that it might be difficult to determine if the man intended to kill Trump. He noted that the suspect's SUV had fake license plates, and the interior of the vehicle was in disarray. Various passports and driver's licenses under different names were discovered inside the vehicle.
The suspect also informed authorities that he is a member of a group called 'Sovereign Citizens.' 'I wouldn't say this is a militant group. It’s simply a group that does not believe in the government and government control,' he stated.
Chad Bianco is a Republican and has previously shown support for Trump. He is also a campaign official for the candidate in California.
