The Actual Number of Armenian Prisoners in Azerbaijan is Different: Artsakh Ombudsman
In addition to the 23 individuals confirmed by Baku, the circumstances of the captivity of an additional 80 individuals have been documented. Participants of the action demanding the immediate release of Armenian prisoners of war and hostages held in Baku, led by Gegham Stepanyan, handed letters to an official of the UN office.
“One of the letters is from the leader of the Artsakh Diocese, addressing various rights of the people of Artsakh ahead of COP29, which was also forwarded to the UN office in Armenia,” stated Stepanyan.
Subsequently, the participants of the action marched to the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia. Issues regarding the release of Armenian prisoners of war and hostages illegally held in Azerbaijan, as well as clarifying the fates of the missing, alongside protecting the rights of the people of Artsakh, also encompass critical matters such as the preservation of Armenian historical and cultural heritage in Artsakh and the realization of the collective right of the people of Artsakh for safe and dignified return,” he added.
