It's a Serious Provocation, Lavrov Says

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stated that the realization of plans to strike Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities would represent a serious provocation. "If plans or threats to attack the peaceful nuclear facilities of the Islamic Republic of Iran are carried out, it would be a very serious provocation," Lavrov said at a press conference in the capital of Laos.

The minister reminded that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which oversees Iran's nuclear program, is fairly stringent in its monitoring, noting no signs indicating that Iran intends to shift its nuclear program towards military purposes.

On October 1, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched numerous missiles towards Israel in an operation dubbed 'True Promise 2.' In turn, Israeli military officials have stated they will respond to the shelling when deemed necessary. Western media reported that Israel could strike Iranian oil and nuclear facilities as a retaliatory measure.

Israeli Economy Minister Nir Barkat has urged for action against Iran, including targeting its nuclear capabilities. "We must strike Iran," the minister stated, adding that such operations would also encompass attacks on Tehran’s nuclear potential. When asked if striking Iran would lead to a regional war, Barkat emphasized that Israel's future is at stake.
