Illegal Logging Detected and Timber Transported by Unauthorized Vehicle, Says Ministry of Internal Affairs
Illegal logging has been reported as trees were cut down in the forest and transported using an unauthorized vehicle. Both the driver and the owner of the timber are being sought.
On October 9, patrol officers in Syunik Province stopped a "GAZ-52" vehicle on Adelyan Street in the city of Meghri for inspection. The driver, a resident of Meghri, did not present any relevant documents for the 6 cubic meters of timber in the truck.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reported that the truck loaded with timber has been moved to the special storage area of the Meghri police department, and the corresponding documents have been sent to the Syunik regional investigative department.
The patrol's next discovery occurred while on duty in the village of Verin Khotanan. They found an illegally operated "GAZ-66" vehicle on a forest road, loaded with approximately 6 cubic meters of timber. The vehicle was towed to the special storage area of the Kapan police department.
Measures are being taken to identify the driver and the owner of the timber.
