Why Pashinyan and Aliyev Sat Side by Side: Expert Explains
The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, sat side by side at the CIS summit in Moscow according to protocol. This was stated by Niyazi Niyazov, a Doctor of Historical Sciences and an expert on the foreign policies of South Caucasus countries, in an interview with Lenta.ru.
He clarified that the protocol is determined by the rules of the Russian language, specifically the alphabet. "Initially, it follows the order of Azerbaijan, then Armenia. There is no specific political policy in that regard," Niyazov stated.
According to the political scientist, recently Azerbaijan has removed the demand for a land corridor through Armenia's Zangezur region to Nakhchivan from the agenda in order to sign a peace treaty.
