New Details about Hurricane Milton: It Seems to be Weakening
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has reported on the further weakening of Hurricane Milton, indicating a decrease in wind speed from 230 to 215 kilometers per hour.
“Maximum winds are near 130 mph (215 km/h) with higher gusts,” stated the NHC in its updated report.
Milton, which is approaching the coast of Florida, remains a Category 4 hurricane and is considered “extremely dangerous,” but it is gradually losing strength. The center expects that by Friday morning it will become an extratropical storm.
As a reminder, U.S. President Joe Biden signed an emergency declaration for Florida on October 7 in anticipation of Hurricane Milton approaching the state, ordering federal assistance to local authorities.
The storm is expected to approach the shores of Florida on Wednesday or Thursday. Experts have calculated that Milton will bring destructive waves exceeding 3 meters in height to Florida's western coast, including the Tampa Bay area.
