Closed Session in Turkish Parliament
Turkish parliamentarians held a closed session on Tuesday to discuss the potential spread of war in the Middle East. This meeting came one week after President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's unfounded claims that Israel intends to invade Turkish territory, according to Reuters.
Israel has not publicly responded to Erdoğan's statement, which analysts and opposition lawmakers consider to be unmeasured and primarily aimed at diverting public attention from Turkey's economic troubles.
The Israeli government also did not comment on the closed parliamentary session held in Ankara on Tuesday, titled “The Israeli Occupation of Lebanon and Events in the Region,” the agency reported. Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş announced that the ministers of foreign affairs and defense would present reports during the closed session regarding the risk of further escalation in the Gaza and Lebanon conflicts, as requested by the opposition.
