Brother of Kapan Mayor Arrested

In a corruption case involving the Polytechnic University of Kapan, where former rector Lernik Petrosyan is implicated, law enforcement authorities have arrested student Hovik Parsyan (brother of Kapan Mayor Gevorg Parsyan) and Vahe Petrosyan (known as Soko's Vahe).

The arrested students were enrolled in the university's distance learning program, did not attend classes, but received grades in exchange for bribes. "Both of them are studying in the university's distance learning department. The two students were arrested last night. It is also noteworthy that on September 26, the National Security Service apprehended 20 employees of the Polytechnic University of Kapan, including rector Lernik Petrosyan, who was dismissed from his position on September 23. He has been charged with receiving bribes and embezzling large amounts of money entrusted to him by the state," the report states.
