Azerbaijan Has Suffered from This Disaster and Would Like to Prevent the Repetition of the Scenario: Amirbekov

Armenia must urgently address its evident territorial claims regarding a part of Azerbaijan's sovereign territory, as enshrined in its current Constitution. This was stated by Elchin Amirbekov, the Azerbaijani president's special representative for special assignments, in an interview with Faro di Roma and Eurasiaticanews.

According to him, by denying the current relevance of this important obstacle to peace and choosing simplistic, unrealistic paths to signing a partial text at any cost, Armenia ignores the fundamental causes of decades-long confrontation between the two countries.

“The direct bilateral negotiations between the two countries regarding the peace treaty have entered a decisive final phase, and I am here to reaffirm Azerbaijan’s firm commitment to achieving stable, secure, and irreversible peace with Armenia. It is our sacred duty to ensure that the future peace agreement renders any return to territorial claims, aggression, or military conflict absolutely, even theoretically, impossible. Azerbaijan has suffered enough from this disaster and would like to prevent this scenario from repeating in the future.

Thus, Armenia must urgently resolve its evident territorial claims enshrined in its Constitution regarding a part of Azerbaijan's sovereign territory. By denying the relevance of this main obstacle to peace and opting for simplified and non-viable pathways to sign a partial text at any cost, Armenia is attempting to ignore the reasons underlying the confrontation between our countries. Therefore, today the ball is in the Armenian side’s court, and we hope that the historical opportunity to turn the tragic page in our relations will not be missed,” he stated.
