«Unfortunately, I cannot instill confidence because I do not trust Azerbaijan». Mirzoyan

We supported Azerbaijan's candidacy to hold the COP29 event in Baku. Indeed, I believe that we are at an important juncture; there is a real opportunity to close the chapter of conflict in our region, at least between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and to open a new chapter of peace and cooperation. However, the current situation is different.

This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, during a high-level discussion entitled “Global Order and Democracy: A Roadmap for the South Caucasus” held within the framework of the Warsaw Security Forum on October 2.

In response to the question of how it is possible to instill a sense of confidence in society for sustainable peace, when there are threats coming from Azerbaijan, Mirzoyan replied: “There are indeed serious concerns that Azerbaijan may try to implement new military plans against Armenia and our territories. For example, the Azerbaijani side is currently using the narrative of 'Western Azerbaijan,' which, as you know, largely coincides with almost the entire territory of the Republic of Armenia. They claim that it is not a territorial demand, but unfortunately, the impression is completely different.

You ask how I, as the Foreign Minister, or my government, can inspire confidence. Unfortunately, I cannot instill confidence because I do not trust Azerbaijan’s peace initiatives.”
