Russia's Foreign Ministry Statement Addressed to Yerevan and Baku

Russia urges Baku and Yerevan to refrain from rhetoric that the opposing side may interpret as disrespect for each other's territorial integrity and a threat of a forceful scenario for resolving contentious issues. This was stated today by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, during a weekly press briefing.

"The topic of refugees and internally displaced persons is relevant for both sides. Considering this, we find it useful for Baku and Yerevan to activate dialogue on humanitarian issues, including the preservation of historical, cultural, and religious monuments, ensuring free and safe access to cemeteries, and the search for missing persons," Zakharova said.

She added that there is significant demand for such an approach. Should there be a need for Moscow's involvement in resolving these issues, the Russian side is prepared for it.

Earlier, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan commented on Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's statement that Azerbaijanis should return to what he referred to as "Western Azerbaijan," stating that Yerevan does not see political will from Baku to sign the agreed part of the peace agreement. The discussions about "Western Azerbaijan" create an impression of territorial claims against Armenia.
