Powerful Eruption on the Sun

A powerful eruption of the penultimate level of intensity occurred on the Sun last night. This was reported to TASS by the Institute of Applied Geophysics. On October 1, at 03:59 Yerevan time, an M7.7 eruption lasting 39 minutes was recorded in the group of 3942 sunspots (S18E30).

Solar flares are classified into five categories—A, B, C, M, and X—depending on the intensity of the X-ray radiation. The minimum A0.0 class corresponds to the radiation power at Earth's orbit, which is 10 nanowatts per square meter. Each subsequent class increases in intensity by a factor of ten.

Flares are typically accompanied by eruptions of solar plasma, which can create magnetic storms when the resulting clouds reach Earth. According to the IPG monitoring of space weather, the level of influence from solar X-ray radiation on the Earth's ionosphere has increased to R2 (moderate) on a scale of five indicators, where the highest is R5 (extreme).
