Russia's Foreign Ministry Comments on the Death of Hezbollah Leader Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah
The Russian Foreign Ministry has issued a statement characterizing the death of Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah as a 'political assassination.'
'We strongly condemn another political assassination carried out by Israel. This act of violence carries the potential for dramatic consequences in Lebanon and across the entire Middle East. The Israeli side could not have been unaware of such dangers, yet they resorted to such action, killing Lebanese citizens, which will almost inevitably trigger a new wave of violence. Thus, they bear full responsibility for further escalation,' the Russian Foreign Ministry's statement reads, which also calls for an immediate halt to military operations.
'This would allow for the cessation of bloodshed and create conditions for political and diplomatic resolution. In the current volatile situation, responsible members of the international community must do everything possible to prevent the region from descending into large-scale armed confrontation,' the Russian Foreign Ministry asserted.
Earlier, it was reported that the leader of the Lebanese Hezbollah movement was killed as a result of an Israeli airstrike near Beirut.
