Nubar Afeyan Issues Call to Azerbaijan

Prominent scientist, businessman, and philanthropist Nubar Afeyan has called on the Azerbaijani authorities to release Ruben Vardanyan and all other Armenian prisoners. Afeyan wrote on his X microblog that it has been one year since his friend and colleague Ruben Vardanyan was forcibly and unlawfully detained by Azerbaijan. Along with many other Armenians, he continues to be held illegally in Baku, where their fundamental rights are being openly violated.

“The world must not ignore this injustice and do nothing. It is time to act, especially as Azerbaijan is preparing to host COP29, mocking what should be a key climate event for a world that considers human rights to be at the core of its agenda. I urge the Azerbaijani government to immediately release Ruben and all Armenian prisoners unlawfully held in Baku,” Afeyan wrote.
