Middle East Region on the Brink of Major War, Lavrov Warns

The Middle East region is on the brink of a major war, which "someone seems to want very much." This was stated by the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergey Lavrov, during a UN Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East, according to TASS.

"The Middle East has once again found itself on the brink of a major war, which, as it seems to us, someone very much desires," he said.

According to him, although the UN Security Council and the General Assembly have adopted several resolutions calling for a ceasefire, the actions of the Israeli army continue.

"Ten days ago, the General Assembly approved the advisory opinion of the International Court, which unambiguously speaks about the illegal nature of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land and the necessity of a ceasefire. The overwhelming majority of Council members supported this initiative aimed at achieving a fair and long-term resolution to the Palestine-Israel conflict and the right of Palestinians to establish their own independent state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital," he added.

Lavrov emphasized that there is an unambiguous decision by the UN, and the overall task is to ensure its implementation. "The unresolved nature of the Palestine-Israel conflict has a destabilizing effect on the entire region. The crisis around Gaza has become a catalyst for the Lebanon-Israel confrontation, and footage of ongoing shelling has circulated around the world," he noted.
